Ubayeid Ullah is a PhD student in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Iowa, working with Professor Yağmur Derin at the Derin Precipitation Lab, IIHR—Hydroscience and Engineering. He brings a computer science background to hydrology research, with interests spanning machine learning, high-performance computing, and AI-driven approaches to precipitation and earth system modeling. He holds a BS in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and previously worked with the Alabama Water Institute (CIROH REU, 2025). Outside of research, he enjoys spending time outdoors — hiking, camping, swimming, and traveling with friends.
